The British Hernia Society has published guidelines which recommends the use of laparoscopic surgery for both bilateral (hernias both sides) or recurrent (previously open repaired) hernias. It is important that, if you have hernias both sides or have previously had a repair and need a repeat repair, you see a surgeon who is able to do laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
